For those of us who miss Townes Van Zandt, let us introduce Jim Bush. Familiar phrasing and delivery, yes, but there are two distinct and powerful differences that make Jim Bush a troubadour for our times. First, he leans a little more toward the country and the occasional bluegrass feel, which wasn’t really Townes’ thing, and second, his lyrics, while containing some vagueness, get quite to the point, painting succinct pictures in the mind.
MyTexasMusic.com thinks that Jim Bush and Townes once shook hands and a bit of each other spilled into the other, edifying and enhancing each. Bush is not the Van Zandt incarnate, actually far from it, but rather stands on his own as one of the great songwriters of our time. Bush’s 2003 release “LOVE, TIME & DISTANCE” contains twelve such offerings, including the soon-to-be classic “Sixes” which tells the story of a dice game gone bad. Not too many sad songs for Bush, as he is more apt to sing of love, time, and distance….duh. “Ouachita Rain” is one of the most moving songs from this genre, and “Til I See Marie” might be the best train song-turned-love song ever written. We caught Marcie Larios featuring at the arena style facility of the New West in Dallas. Nesto Promotions packed the house and Marcie, in from Houston, rocked it with a strong set based on an appetite for laughs. Marcie is all funny with one of the best diet sets we've ever heard. She covered 24-hr Fitness, Trim Spa, Slim Fast and even threw in a wrap. She may be the first comedian we've see to do a diet Whopper with mic in hand on her back. Kick off the Holidays Downtown with CityLights!
A Downtown Shopping and Lighting Extravaganza

Neiman Marcus and DOWNTOWNDALLAS are thrilled to host another exciting year of City Lights, November 17, 2006! Join us beginning at 6:30 p.m. for this street-wide extravaganza and kick off the holidays Downtown, in the heart of Dallas.

The grand spectacle of the legendary lighting of Neiman Marcus Downtown will extend throughout the heart of Downtown in the Main Street District, from Ervay to Field. Retailers and restaurants throughout the district will creatively light their storefronts, keep their doors and invite all of Dallas to celebrate the season. In addition, the Downtown holiday tree will be lit at Pegasus Plaza by special musical guests, Trout Fishing in America!

Throughout the evening attendees will be encouraged to shop with promenades led by street performers, and will enjoy extended holiday hours and in-store promotions at each participating retail and restaurant location. At 7 pm, Neiman Marcus Downtown will light the store and unveil the Neiman Marcus Holiday Windows and one-of-a-kind Holiday Tree, the ideas of which have been in secret vaults for months. A special visitor from the North Pole will also drop in and most certainly steal the show.

Singer/pianist/songwriter Michael Gott is a performer you won't soon forget. From his background in such disparate musical disciplines as gospel, pop, opera, musical theater, classical piano and jazz, he has developed his own unique and exciting performance style. He has been compared to many of the greats, but Michael is truly an original.
His musical home base in Dallas is none other than the bar at the Mansion on Turtle Creek, where he has been performing since 1994. Also you can hear him each Sunday morning at the Center for Spiritual Living. Since 2001, Michael has also been singing frequently at Vanessie of Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Michael is very much in demand for conferences and other special events. In recent years, he has shared the stage with such internationally known personalities as Dr. Wayne Dyer, Dr. Deepak Chopra and others.
Other accomplishments include: the release of five albums, performances of his musical, Split Ends (co-written and performed by Dea Vise) in Dallas and Los Angeles and of his chamber opera Five O'clock Call in Tulsa. In 2000 he co-wrote a new musical with librettists Joan Jenkins and Greta Muller called All STRESSED Up With Nowhere To Go. The show first premiered in the 2001 Dallas Festival of Independent theaters. In April of 2002, it opened to rave reviews and sellout crowds at the Kim Dawson Theater in Dallas.

One the national scene she was in Hal Prince’s revival of “Showboat” has toured in “Cats”. Linda is a co-founder and artistic director of Tagline Music, “an independent record label who's purpose is to bring the many talented Cabaret artists to life on CD so that the world can share in our world of Cabaret music”, with cabaret artist Tom Grounds and musician Ricky Pope.

Houston area singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer Ken Gaines has the goal of writing great songs in just about every genre and style. You won't be able to put a finger on what he does from sweet lyrical ballads, to double entendre blues, to swingin' jazz, and redneck rock. "For all of the great songs that have been written I belong to a wonderful group of people who believe there are at least as many great ones still to be written." His voice has the range to cover all of these styles and his supple guitar work lays down arrangements instead of just chords. His lyrics are both powerful and poetic and highlight his skills as a story teller and observer of life.

Onstage Ken is both into the songs and the moment. "Live performance for me is the culmination of all my thinking and practice. It's like a religious experience. I want you to laugh and cry on the same night and I hope you go home feeling like you've fallen in love all over again with someone or something you hold very dear".

Ken has two solo CD's and a live cassette to his credit. His latest, "Catfish Moon" 2006 on the Songdog record label is a real taste of what it's like to hear Ken with Karen, Wayne, and co-producer Bill Ward with guest appearances by Gary Sapone, Jeff Duncan, & Ron Rebstock on several cuts. The previous CD, "Real Men", 2002, established Ken as a national act. He's also written and recorded songs for "The Silver Wolf Homeless Project" 1995, as well as the earlier "No One Else" live cassette released in 1991. And through the years he's worked on numerous other recording projects as well as a writer for stage and film projects notably the feature film, "Blue Days Lost" and two co-written children's musicals, "Noah and the Ark" and "Journey of the Wise Men" produced by the Excellent Theatre Company in Houston.

Since the fall of 1998 he has produced and hosted a songwriters' series at Houston's legendary Anderson Fair. These Thursday night productions have become a must for traveling artists from all over North America who are breaking into the Texas territory, as well as a way to hear many of Texas' singer/songwriters. “Talk about a great way to keep your edge as a performer. I love these shows!” says Ken. “Each night is a different mix and allows me to bring out a different aspect of my performance as well as the opportunity to interact with so many talented people.”

Finally, he's a regular around the Kerrville Folk Festival making sure his schedule allows him to spend the entire 18 days there interacting with fellow singer/songwriters both on stage and around the song circles. This Weekend, 4 out of 5 Doctors, will return to the Stone Street stage on both Friday and Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. with a new show entitled "Texas in October:The State Fair, Rangers Baseball and Other Horror Stories". Geoffrey accompanies Matt in a new program singing from "The Great American Songbook": songs by Cole Porter, Fats Waller, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern and others. Geoffrey is the primary harp instructor at The Geoffrey Harp School and author of The Geoffrey Harp School Level I. Geoffrey also plays harp at such places as The Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and The Dallas Museum of Art. Matt Woodbury is also an instructor at The Geoffrey Harp School where he teaches both harp and voice. Matt also sings in The Dallas Opera Chorus, the Harris Chorale in Forth Worth and in the Choir at East Dallas Christian Church.

New Age…World Music…Rhythmic and Improvisational…the Venezuelan harp played by a consummate performer, arranger, and composer…Carlos combines jazz with Latin rhythms to create a new Pan-American Jazz.As a youngster growing up in Caracas, the sophisticated capital city of oil-rich Venezuela, Carlos Guedes was exposed to a galaxy of musical influences from North American and European rock to Afro-Caribbean and Jazz music. In 1981, at the age of 22, he traveled to the US to pursue formal studies of the harp. Impressive as a composer, direct and engaging as a human being, and truly awe-inspiring as a performer, Carlos Guedes has achieved what every musician strives for but precious few attain; the organic melding of man and music. Carlos Guedes and his music are one.

DALLAS (July 31, 2006) - FLINCH Productions, a newly developedDallas-based theatrical production company, is proud to announce the premier of its groundbreaking play "COZY" by Jay Shirtz, debuting on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at the historical Stone Street Theatre located in downtown Dallas. With a star-studded cast, including 2005's Leon Rabin Award Best Actress, Carrie Bourn, the theatrical play and production company is sure to make a lasting mark in the hearts and minds of Dallas theatre goers. "The collaboration of FLINCH Productions and the play "COZY" will combine a unique flavor of dramatic theater for audiences all over the Metroplex," said Kyle Bengel, managing director of FLINCH Productions.

"COZY," FLINCH Productions' maiden voyage, is just the beginning of along-term relationship the company hopes to establish with Stone Street Theatre. The theatre's warm and inviting ambiance provides the perfect venue for the theatrical experience the company strives to create for its audiences. Additionally, theatergoers can sip on drinks and nibble on snacks as they enjoy the show. With the revitalization of Dallas's downtown, the theatrical company hopes to become a catalyst of many more theater openings in the downtown area. "There are many theater options throughout the city; however there is a very limited selection amidst the skyscrapers. Once FLINCH Productions' debut in downtown proves to be a successful venture, I feel confident that other venues and theatrical productions will follow our lead," said Bengel. Written and directed by career veteran Jay Shirtz, "COZY," a gritty play about the desperate measures a family takes to get what they feel they are owed, is both comical and stabbingly raw. This telling play takes you through the journey and hardships that a family endures as a result of a father, John Lee, being crippled by a work related accident. John Lee and his two daughters, Liz and Sally are forced to take dramatic measures to survive and make ends meet. With the help of Liz's boyfriend, Grey, their plan seems flawless... or is it? The upcoming debut of "COZY" has created quite a stir, and has sparked the interest of Art-Department Coordinator, Michelle Young of one of Fox's top rated television shows, "Prison Break." Young will be the art director for "COZY," overseeing all aspects of the art department including: designing the set, costuming, makeup and all set dressing for the play. Additionally, the Dallas-based film company, Realm Studios, has announced plans to turn the production into a feature film and will film the stage production as a documentary. Realm Studios represents a conglomeration of Realm Entertainment, MPS Studios, and Lucid Post. These highly successful film production service companies bring a unique and crucial service to the task of filmmaking with the goal to produce marketable and thereby profitable independent feature films. Some lucky audience members may even be given the opportunity to provide testimonials in this highly anticipated documentary.

Founded in 2006, FLINCH Productions is a haven in Dallas fornew works and new writers. Created as an artistic outlet for new plays, aspiring writers and innovative directors, FLINCH Productions specializes in the staging of new dramatic plays as well as inventive new stagings of some of the great theatrical works of the past. D. Kyle Bengel, managing director of FLINCH Productions, is a former professional ballet dancer and choreographer and has spent the majority of his professional career either onstage or in the director's chair. He has served as the assistant artistic director and resident choreographer for two professional dance companies and the artistic director of a third. In 2001, Bengel was named Choreographer Emeritus of the Dance Arts Project in California's Bay Area. He has performed with such notable dance companies as the San Francisco Ballet, the Oakland Ballet and the Pacific Festival Ballet. In addition to his work with FLINCH Productions, Bengel is the artistic director of the "Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico" in Dallas. Jay Shirtz, director of "COZY," has directed professionally in Manhattan and has been the artistic director of two New York City equity theaters. He is the author of several produced screenplays and has recently completed directing his first feature film, "Fourplay," which he also wrote. In addition to directing "COZY" for FLINCH Productions, Jay also teaches acting in Dallas and holds a bachelor's degree in acting and directing for theater. "COZY" will open on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. at the StoneStreet Theatre at 109 Stone St., which is conveniently nestled above the Campisi's Restaurant in downtown Dallas, and will run through August 27. Opening to the public June 9-10, 2006

Stone Street Theatre, a venue showcasing local and national talent in the heart of downtown Dallas, opens on Friday, June 9, 2006. Whether it’s improvisation, stand-up, cabaret, musical revues, interactive comedy, visual art, classes or clowns, Stone Street Theatre will host an on-going wide variety of acts. Stone Street Theatre in the Stone Street Gardens area between Main and Elm Streets in the upstairs space behind the Thomas & Leggitt Tavern and above the downtown location of Campisi’s.

The Stone Street Theatre began as an innovative idea of Bryan Hutson, a downtown resident. He sought to develop entertainment options for the local populace as an alternative to those existing in the West End and in Deep Ellum. Mr. Hutson partnered with Sergio A. Garcia and presented their idea to George Elson, an owner in the Stone Street Gardens area. Mr. Elson enthusiastically offered the banquet facility behind the Thomas & Leggitt Tavern to help give the fledgling organization what it needed most, a performance space.

“We have brought the Stone Street Theatre to life in order to provide an enriching and challenging theatrical experience into downtown proper,” said Bryan Hutson, co-managing director. “We want visitors and residents of Dallas alike to have the opportunity to see local artists like actors, musicians, dancers, designers, directors and playwrights in quality presentations. We will strive to be a uniquely energizing venue for the promotion of economic and cultural development in downtown Dallas.”

Stone Street Theatre has put together an impressive list of several long-time players in the Dallas theater arts and entertainment community to act as co-artistic directors. These include part of the 4 Out of 5 Doctors team of Mark Fickert and Gary Walters and John S. Davies.

“We feel strongly about our partnership with Mark, Gary and John. Not only are they all able to provide varied types of entertainment themselves, but they know other local artists very well and are crucial in designing, implementing and booking the type of productions that will make the theater prosper,” said Mr. Hutson.

The Stone Street Experience

Something of a hybrid between a straight theater, a comedy club and a cabaret style series of shows with ever-changing acts – known as “Stone Street Presents,” not simply a traditional theater but rather an “entertainment destination.” Hence, productions at Stone Street Theatre will encompass a wide variety of genres. Stone Street Theatre will be a place where patrons want to return again and again because they know they will see something new, different and innovative.

Much of the experience would be interactive for the patrons: a show room atmosphere where they arrive, have a drink at the bar or their table, mingle a bit with the other patrons, then enjoy a show. One week, it’s a comedy/improv troupe for a 45-minute set. Then while refreshing your drink, some live piano/sing-a-long. Back for another 40-minute set of stand-up comedy, juggling, variety acts, etc.

Goals of Stone Street Theatre:

Provide a local arts organization for the increasing number of talented & artistically inclined residents of downtown Dallas.
Bring theatre enthusiasts to an area of town not otherwise considered for the arts by providing unique and edgy performances expected in this type of community.
Provide guests to the City Center/Main Street District, staying in the hotels in proximity to the theatre, a place for evening entertainment within walking distance.
Continue the improvement of the downtown area by challenging developers to invest in the thriving “community” composed of business, retail, and residential infrastructure. Further to encourage the growth of arts and entertainment space in the city center.
Provide an “evening” venue for cabaret style performances by the Dallas theatre community.
To provide a unique, casual and safe theatrical experience unique to downtown, a Manhattan feel in the heart of downtown Dallas.

Award Winning Improv Troup Takes the Stage at Stone Street Theatre

The person who said that comedy was not pretty has most definetly experienced Section 8, Dallas' most outrageous improv comedy troup Section 8, with their irreverant skits, outlandish musical numbers and obtuse humor have endured since the early nineties garnering many accolades along the way including "Best Comedy Troup" by the Dallas Observer. Troup members Chad Cline, Dave Little, Josh Martin, Mike McFarland, Mark Orvick and Chris Rager have appeared in various commercials, television shows, recorded voice-overs(for Dragonball and other commercials) and are talented actors, writers, composers and producers in their own right. They have also performed at improv and comedy clubs throughout the country including The Improv, Laff Stop, The Funny Bone and more.

Section 8 is now adding another venue to their usual Tuesday night home at Ozona's Bar and Grill on Greenville Avenue. On Saturday, October 1st they will be debuting on Main Street at the newly opened Stone Street Theatre with an additional performance on Saturday, October 15th. The Stone Street Theatre (www.stonestreettheatre.com) is located at 1525 Main in the Stone Street Gardens between Elm and Main Street. Owners Bryan Hutson and Sergio A.Garcia have created an intimate entertainment experience in the heart of downtown Dallas within walking distance of many hotels, restaurants and clubs.

Stone Street Theatre is a grass-roots organization which has been establshed through the efforts of Hutson and Garcia, the Metropolitan Downtown Tavern, Stone Street Gardens owner Thomas Taylor, Miranda Bryant and the Adolphus Hotel, and Kourtny Garrett with the Central Dallas Association. Numerous volunteers have donated and installed lighting and sound equipment, donated tables and materials for the stage, designed a website, are hosting the website, sewn and hung curtains and constructed panels for covering the windows to help establish the feeling of a live theatre. In keeping with that partnership spirit, all proceeds from the October 1st performance will go to the theatre for purchase of additional lighting and sound equipment.

Next Meeting - Stone Street Theatre

Just a reminder to let you know the next meeting of the Stone Street Theatre will be this Saturday, September 10th at 7:00 p.m.. Following the short meeting we are encouraging everyone to hang around and enjoy some great food and drinks, have some fun and support our major supporter and organizational partner, Metropolitan Downtown Tavern.

Please enter through the theatre door next to Campisi's. This will be the last meeting before we open with Mahogany Dance Theatre on September 23rd. We will be announcing what will be coming up in the next few weeks and will give everyone the opportunity to volunteer to help with some of the last minute things that need to be done to make sure we have a successful opening. I think you will be surprised at how the Mahogany Dance Theatre has transformed the space but there is more work to be done!

We will be discussing the direction of organization over the next few months and want your input. Sergio and I really need your help on what you think this venue should offer. We have come a long way in a short amount of time and so much of that is due to the support and encouragement we have received from you.

Stone Street Theatre Opens with Veteran Dance Company

Downtown residents who like dining, shopping and working within minutes from home, can now experience the world of live theatre just outside their doorsteps. City guests and visitors to the new downtown Dallas who are looking for an evening of fine dining and one-of-a kind entertainment now have a place to experience both. After an initial town meeting in June, the new Stone Street Theatre will open its doors with a grand debut from the Mahogany Dance Theatre of Texas, Friday and Saturday, September 23rd and 24th at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the performance are $25.00 and are available at the door or by calling the dance company at 214-828-0959. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. for refreshments; seating in the new space is limited so reservations are suggested.

In the heart of the city, the new venue is located on the second floor of the Metropolitan Downtown Tavern, 1525 Main Street. The theatre entrance is nestled in the center of the Stone Street Gardens between Main and Elm Streets. Theatre founders Bryan Hutson and Sergio A. Garcia have partnered with restaurant owner George Elson, the Central Dallas Association, the Adolphus Hotel and Stone Street Garden’s Thomas Taylor to create an intimate retreat for great entertainment by local artists and performers. This latest addition to the city’s urban center promises to be a welcome escape for downtown residents and visitors alike.

The featured artist for the theatre’s opening, Mahogany Dance Theatre of Texas, is celebrating its 30th year as a community arts advocate. An explosive blend of ballet as well as acrobatic, African and jazz movements, “Pulse, Sweat and Rhythm” is an artistic delight from a company renowned for its spiritual roots and cutting edge dance.

The Dance Theatre was founded in 1976 by south Dallas native, Vann J. Gilbert. Theatre to Open With Mahogany Dance Theatre in Late September

We are excited to announce we will be opening our doors with a performance from the Mahogany Dance Theatre on Friday and Saturday, September 23 & 24 at 8:00 p.m.. Plans for the opening include everything from a red carpet to searchlights announcing our location! Ticket and press information will be sent out soon. A reception and preview night will be held on Thursday, September 22nd for the press and invited guests.

The schedule for the rest of the year is still being finalized and will include cabaret performances from Linda Leonard and Tom Grounds, Section 8 Comedy and more.

All right all you singers/performers...it is time to update your resume and send us a video of what you can do! We are still looking for some cabaret performers and specialty acts…if you would like to audition for a slot please send a video(dvd, vhs, or media file) and resume to:

Our plans still call for auditions for other shows, musicals and plays, sometime after the first of the year. This will depend on how successful the next few months are enabling us to pay for royalties, etc.

Facility Changes

The graphics for the banners and sign designed by Jay Cantrell are at the printers and will be installed soon…all donated by the building owner, Thomas Taylor.

The versatile stage has been located three blocks away. It will be constructed from what used to be a raised floor for a federal data processing center located in a downtown building being converted to condos! Bryan and Russell Dyer have looked at the floor and believe it has some great possibilities…and it is free! The 2 x 2 floor panels and frame will need to be removed and transported to the theatre space soon so we will be scheduling a volunteer work “party” for that in the near future. Yaaaaaaaaa!

Other panels which will cover some of the windows to keep out nighttime light are being constructed by Eric Guthrie. Eric works with Bryan at Calloway’s Nursery and designs and builds custom made furniture. He is volunteering his time and materials for this project. These panels will be used as canvases for artist Jim Fredrick and others and will serve as both blackout panels and large paintings which can be purchased and replaced…hopefully on a regular basis.

We will be needing help over the next few months in setting up and taking down the stage before and after a run of performances. The Metropolitan Downtown Tavern has graciously given us the space for this project, however, there are still some event dates which were booked previously, and we must honor those and return the space to what the guests have booked. It will be a challenge to work through these but I know with everyone's help we can get get it done! After these bookings are over in December, no more moving!

Web Page Being Developed

The Stone Street Theatre web page will be up and running soon, we are just waiting for a digital copy of the sign graphic for the "splash" page, then development of the full site will follow. Sergio and Bryan met with Phil Lockhart and Chris Jones, both downtown residents, who are donating their time, experience and creative abilities to design a one-of-kind website give us the prescence we need. You will be able to find out schedule information, buy tickets, read performer bios, find links to other theatres and performances, etc. We look forward to seeing what Phil and Chris will come up with!

Parlor Grand Piano To Make 500 Mile Journey

Estimates are being taken for some minor repairs to a parlor grand piano to be moved from the Rio Grande Valley. Sergio has owned this piano for a long time and another downtown resident, John Burkel has graciously offered to cover those expenses and have it brought to Dallas and the Stone Street Theatre!

Art Showing/Fundraiser Coming in Spring

We are also in discussion with an actor/soap star, who has now become a respected Los Angeles artist, to have a showing in early Spring to benefit a local non-profit organization. We want this to be as versatile a space as possible and with this event we are well on our way. We will keep you posted on the details of the event.

Next Meeting Scheduled

The last meeting before the official opening will be at 7:00 on Saturday, September 10th at the Stone Street Theatre. Please use the theatre entrance on Stone Street rather than the Metropolitan. This will be an opportunity for all of us to regroup and talk about volunteer opportunities to help get ready for September 23rd. It has been amazing to see all the outpouring of support from the community, however we are still in need of folks to just help get things ready. If you have been reading these updates and only been to one meeting or no meeting at all...now is the time to help! Hopefully we will see you at this next meeting and at the Mahogany Dance Theatre’s performance.

Downtown CDA Residents Meeting

Last night, July 26, Bryan and I introduced the Stone Street Theatre to the downtown Dallas Residents Council Association. (The CDA is an organization of downtown residents who meet regularly to discuss the going-ons in the downtown Dallas area.) The council is very excited to have the Stone Street Theatre be a part of downtown Dallas and be a grass roots organization for downtown. The general sentiment, again, was downtown needs and wants a local, grass roots entertainment venue like the Stone Street Theatre. The council would like Stone Street Theatre to be a main stay in downtown Dallas. Bryan and I are working hard all our ducks in a row and want to thank all of those who have stepped up to the plate to show their support and offer their help. Keep the buzz going and tell all your friends about the Stone Street Theatre. We are still planning to start production in late September. Keep looking here for the opening performance date! If, as planned, the newly formed Stone Street Theatre Group presents its first performance in September, don't expect anything like the 32-trumpet choir that will hail the November groundbreaking of the $275 million Dallas Center for the Performing Arts.
But among downtown residents, the group's debut – in a room over a pizza parlor on Elm Street – may be the more anticipated event.
Downtown has no shortage of major cultural venues, but few have the casual, drop-in feel of a small theater group.
"I think it's phenomenal," said Kourtny Penn, director of marketing and events for the Central Dallas Association, which has pledged to help promote the group.
"It gives downtown residents something more to do in the evenings. And as a downtown resident myself, I can tell you that's really important."
The theater group is being founded by Bryan Hutson, whose day job is assistant manager of a Calloway's Nursery. Mr. Hutson, however, is also a downtown resident with considerable experience in community theater.
The idea of a downtown theater group has been kicking around for a while, but most people who proposed it got discouraged at the lack of usable – and affordable – space, Ms. Penn said.
George Elson, managing partner of the Metropolitan Downtown Tavern, offered free use of the restaurant's third-floor banquet room overlooking Elm and Stone streets – a space that has a separate entrance and sits above Campisi's restaurant.
When Mr. Hutson called a town hall meeting of downtown residents to announce the formation of the theater group, Mr. Elson cautioned him to be realistic.
"I told him not to be disappointed if only 10 or 20 people showed up," Mr. Elson said.
Sixty did.
The group is planning to offer a mixture of cabaret, performance theater and dance, Mr. Hutson said.
"We want people to spend four hours downtown, go to the show and maybe one of the restaurants around," he said.
The banquet hall has a bar in the back, but the emphasis will be on the stage.
"We're not going to be the Windmill Dinner Theater," Mr. Elson said.

Almost unnoticed in a flurry of recent downtown announcements was the Dallas City Council's recent authorization for the purchase of land for two downtown parks.

Our First Meeting! Bravi to all who came!

We hope all is well with each of you! Most of you were at out first organizational meeting and we were very excited by the turnout. Nearly 60 people were in attendance and had a great evening. Sergio and I were able to introduce the organizing partners in the project and present our mission statement as well as the goals of the Stone Street Theatre. George Elson with the Metropolitan, Kourtny Penn with the Central Dallas Association and Miranda Bryant with the Adolphus had so many good words to say about the future and were very impressed by the interest of those attending. What a great kickoff to the Stone Street Theatre, Upstairs at the Metropolitan!

We wanted to let you know about the next meeting on Monday, July 11th from 8:00-10:00 p.m. . The Metropolitan at 1525 Main Street has again offered to give us the space for the meeting. Please enter from the Stone Street entrance between the Metropolitan and Campisi's (unless of course you would like to have some dinner/drinks beforehand in the restaurant). Once we begin performances this will be the entrance to the theatre space.

There is a lot of excitement about this project and we want to keep moving along and continue to work toward acquiring what we need to open the doors. We will be sending out an agenda in the next few days to let you know what we are going to discuss. We will also be looking at the organization structure and seeing how each of you will be using your many talents and amazing experience to help grow this new community organization.

Help get a new theatre started!

I invite you to and organizational/developmental meeting on Tuesday June 14, 2005.
There will be free drinks and free food. We will talk about getting the Stone Street Theatre up and running. I need you support and your voice. The more people that are there the more Dallas will see the need for this theatre/performance venue.

The concept of the Stone Stree Theatre is two fold.
1. To bring the theatre arts to the downtown Dallas area on a more consistent basis
2. To offer a cabaret venue for post theatre/after hours entertainment.
